MOTION STUDIES an ongoing series of experiments Motion Studies are a series of short films studying the effects and implications of movement in controlled environments. These short films serve as practical illustrations of basic concepts in physics: e.g., fractal motion, gravity, resistance, momentum, collisions, circular and rotational motion, dissipative patterns, thermodynamics etc al. These short essays in celluloid develop viable solutions to the visualization of physical phenomena ranging from the microscopic to the macrocosmic. The first three installments (studies 3, 11 and 43 - see below) comprise series one (8 minutes total running time.) 3. Gravity Close-in orbits around compact massive objects (such as neutron stars and black holes) trace out paths drastically different from common assumptions. Since the velocity of an orbiting object cannot attain or exceed the speed of light, general relativity theory predicts a different energy curve, resulting in precession absent in Newton's basic theory. Providing evidence against the instantaneous propagation of gravity by measuring free fall speeds, the film documents the universal mechanics of velocity, mass and stress. 11. Heat The film concerns itself with entropy in thermodynamics, which is a measure of disorder. The entropy of the universe increases. An overall increase in disorder is therefore spontaneous. If the volume and energy of a system are constant, then every change to the system increases the entropy. The molecules in one's body exist in great order; because the entropy of the rest of the universe is increased to a greater amount than the entropy of the body is decreased. Entropy, unlike energy, is not conserved. It is wasted. 43. Perpetuum Mobile The wave structure of matter is founded on space, which exists as a wave medium for Spherical Standing Wave Motions. Time is ‘caused’ by the wave motion of space. Forces are caused by a change in velocity of Spherical In-Waves. Let us assume that space and time exist, but there is no motion. Matter could not move and light could not travel through space. As the universe implodes the speed of time, which is the measure of motion, exponentially increases relative to the decrease of space. 97. Inertia Inertia is a non-quantifiable property of matter by which it remains at rest or in uniform motion in the same straight line unless acted upon by some external force. In a statement regarded by Newton as expressing his Principia's first law of motion, Aristotle asserted that a body in (non-violent) motion in a void would continue moving forever if externally unimpeded: "a thing will either be at rest or must be moved ad infinitum, unless something more powerful gets in its way." evidence of gravity: a still image from MOTION STUDIES #3 Back to Motion Studies Page Return to Jake's Page
